When the summer sun begins to shine, the bees start to buzz! Let your child dive into the fun of collage art while learning a bit about bees with this delightful bee craft. Your little one will love cutting, crumpling, and gluing tissue paper, building hand muscles essential for good handwriting in the process.
Start by learning all about bees together. Visit your local library and explore books and magazines filled with illustrations and photos of bees. Focus on the bees' patterns and textures. Explain why bees are vital, how they help flowers grow, and how they make honey.
Before starting the craft, take a walk around your yard or a local park. Collect fallen flower petals and leaves for the collage, reminding your child not to pick from live plants.
Have your child draw an outline of a bee, including its stripes, on a sheet of construction paper.
Encourage your child to crinkle, crumple, and bunch up the tissue paper pieces, then glue them onto the bee drawing to create a textured effect.
Help your child glue the collected leaves and flower petals onto or around the bee. Flower petals make beautiful wings!
Set the collage aside to dry completely.
Once dry, hang up the collage and enjoy the bee-utiful creation!
If your child loves this activity, try making other insect collages like dragonflies, ants, or butterflies!
